A corner shop in a west Suffolk town could sell alcohol as early as 5am if plans before a council are given the go ahead.

The Corner Stores (Suffolk Ltd) at 9 Brandon Road in Mildenhall has requested licencing permission from West Suffolk Council to extend its alcohol sales hours.

This comes after what the owner has described as growing demand from residents.

In a statement to the council, the owner said: "Due to the growing requirements of our increasing customer base we would like to increase the sale of alcohol to marry up with the stores opening times and extend some opening hours to match demand to 5.30am to 10pm, seven days a week."

In the application, The Corner Stores asked permission to open from 5am to 10pm, and sell alcohol during this time, from Monday to Sunday.

They said CCTV will be in use at the premises, a refusal register will be maintained, and all staff will be trained in responsible alcohol retailing.

Representations can be made on the plans to West Suffolk Council at West Suffolk House, Western Way, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 3YU or by email to licensing@westsuffolk.gov.uk by December 5.
