A new American-style chicken wing restaurant which opened its doors in a west Suffolk town centre for the first time on Tuesday was forced to close early after "overwhelming" demand.
Top G Wings welcomed its first customers into the newly renovated 42 St Andrew's Street in Mildenhall, formerly home to En-Thai-Sing restaurant, from 12pm on Tuesday.
The restaurant is the brainchild of long-time friends Shaz Begg, 42, and Paul Stannard, 45, who began renovating the premises in August.
It was busy with customers all day and, at around 3pm, they made the decision to close for two hours to get on top of the 'unprecedented' amount of orders.
They then closed for the day at around 8pm as stock began to run low.
Mr Begg, who also owns Gandhi in Mildenhall, which is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in East Anglia under the ownership of one family, said: "The turnout was amazing. I think we were probably overwhelmed by the amount of people that turned up.
"We had queues going all the way outside and down the street. It was great to see such great support."
Top G Wings offers wings and chicken strips with eight flavour options including buffalo, garlic parmesan and naga chilli, as well as burgers, fries and vegan options.
Top G Wings will be closed for periods of today to allow for further staff training and will reopen for orders at 5pm.
However, the online ordering system will be unavailable for the time being to allow staff to keep on top of orders.
Mr Begg said, while he is saddened that some people were left disappointed by the delays and early closure yesterday, the majority of comments have been positive and many have said it was "worth the wait".
He said he was particularly happy to hear an American customer state his buffalo wings were the best he had ever had.
