A road leading into a Suffolk town is still under water, weeks after the challenges of heavy rainfall and Storm Babet.

There is still a stretch of flood water on Barking Road in Needham Market, measuring around 10 to 15 metres in length, which has caused residents to take many miles of diversions through surrounding villages.

Willisham resident Laurence Temple, who takes his children to school in Creeting, says it has been adding an extra 15 miles to his journey every day.

Needham Market was one of the worst-affected areas during Storm Babet last month, which saw flooding leaving much of the town impassable and many residents displaced from their homes.

Mr Temple said: "The water is not going anywhere. It has never completely gone down since the recent floods and every time it rains, the flood rises and makes it impassable again.

"It's been a nightmare. We take our children to school in Creeting and we are going from Willisham to Somersham, Little Blakenham, Great Blakenham, and then back into Needham Market that way.

"I would say it's an extra 15 or 20 miles a day. Heavy goods vehicles can get through it a breeze, but we have a smaller car.

"Just throwing a few flood signs up is not enough. The doctor's surgery is also on the other side of this lake.

East Anglian Daily Times:

"We are all dumbfounded by it all. It's a daily topic of conversation at school.

"I think Framlingham is back to normal but Barking Road isn't."

A spokesperson from Suffolk Highways said: "A tanker was sent to the location on Tuesday (November 28) to remove flood water on the road.

"However, following heavy rain later that evening, the floodwater returned.

"Further investigations have been undertaken and additional works to clear the drainage ditches will be taking place next week, with further follow-up works ordered to carry out full jetting of the gullies."
