Plans to reopen an historic venue which has been shut for more than a year are progressing.

It was announced last month that The Great House in Lavenham would reopen, after it was purchased by the current owners of The Swan in Long Melford.

A licencing application to serve alcohol has now been submitted to Mid Suffolk District Council.

Documents put forward to the council show the venue would be open to the public between 7am and 12.30am Monday to Thursday, as well as on Sunday.

The opening hours would be extended to 1.30am on Friday and Saturday.

Alcohol could be served between 9am and 12am Monday to Thursday, and until 1am on Friday's and Saturday.

The application also details that music, including live performances, would be allowed between 8am and 11pm.

A reopening date for the venue is yet to be announced.

It has been shut since September 2022 after Colchester Zoo owners Dominique and Julie Tropeano announced it would be closing due to a mix of staff shortages and health issues.
