Around sixty tractor drivers will be lighting up the streets of rural East Suffolk on Sunday with a spectacular festive display.

They will be taking part in a charity tractor run - following on from the huge success of the first Suffolk Tractor Light Parade last year in the run-up to Christmas.

The event begins at 5pm on Sunday, December 17, at Clarke and Simpson's Campsea Ashe Auction Centre and will weave around local towns and villages before returning to the centre.

The parade will visit the market towns of Wickham market and Woodbridge as well as the villages in between. It will criss-cross through Melton in a figure of eight as it returns to its starting place.

East Anglian Daily Times:

Hayden Foster, a partner at estate agents and auctioneers Clarke and Simpson, said: "Last year‘s event was a tremendous success with literally thousands of onlookers, braving terrible freezing rain to enjoy the spectacle the fact the weather could not damage spirits was such a great example of the amazing Suffolk spirit.

"It is hoped this year that even more tractors will take part thus increasing spectacle still further."

This year the tractor run will be raising funds for two local charities - Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (SULSAR) and Just42.

Other villages on the route include Eyke, Rendlesham and Tunstall, with updates on the route progress published by a live tracker shared to the parade's Facebook page.

Last year's event saw residents lining the route their droves - despite torrential downpours.

East Anglian Daily Times:

Liz Quickenden hit on the idea of holding the tractor run last year amid the cost of living crisis after a number of householders chose not decorate their homes with lights for Christmas.

She wanted to bring some Christmas cheer, and asked farmers and tractor drivers if they would help.

"I was astounded by the response we received last year, from the raft of vehicles within the parade to those who braved the weather to watch the beams of light go by," she said.

"There were countless messages of thanks, with some able to donate to our charities and paying forward the kindness and effort of our drivers to good causes in our local community.

"It was clear as soon as the 2022 parade finished, that people wanted to see it return this year and it only felt right to do it all again.

"There are still many ways people can get involved, from tractors drivers signing up to be part of the parade, to putting up posters in the local area and not forgetting turning up to support all our drivers on the night."

Last year Suffolk Light Tractor Parade raised £2,130 for charities Suffolk Mind and EEAST Community First Responders.

This year's even has attracted the help of local businesses - and NFU Mutual has come on board to be the event's main sponsor.
