A seafront development of beach huts and landscaped gardens has opened as part of the next stage of a Suffolk seaside regeneration project.

Felixstowe's Seashore Village completed the construction of 27 traditional-style timber beach huts and landscaped public green space in October.

The ribbon was cut for the official opening on Thursday by councillors and officers at East Suffolk Council, as well as some of the key stakeholders in the project.

Paul Ashton, East Suffolk’s cabinet member for corporate services, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony.

He said: "The Seashore Village provides high-quality, attractive and accessible facilities for everyone to benefit from and enjoy, and along with other recent improvements in the South Seafront, enhances the area for local residents and will help to bring even more visitors to the town."

The area was re-landscaped, with ramp access installed and new public toilets built to include changing places facilities for people needing more space for mobility or assistance.

Each timber hut was built by PJ Spillings Ltd, which is based in Lowestoft, before being assembled on the South Seafront site.

They are set around a fish-shaped lawn, created by Plaice Design architects, also based in Suffolk.

The nearby car park has also been remodelled to allow better access to the site and provide more accessible spaces for wheelchair users.

This project is part of the regeneration of the land between Sea Road and the Promenade, with an activity park opening during the summer.

Work continues on some hireable beach chalets, which have been designed with accessibility and inclusivity in mind.
