A villager has been left "vexed" after being told ongoing problems with her internet connection may not be fixed until the end of the month.

Joanne McFadyen, who has lived Glemsford, near Sudbury, for four years, said the internet cut out about 10 days ago after a power issue in the roadside cabinet which provides broadband to the area, and is still not fixed.

Openreach has been temporarily powering the connection using batteries which last around five hours, meaning the internet is lost when they are empty.

"I got a bit vexed about it at the end of last week with it not being fixed," she said.

"You can't FaceTime anyone, you can't watch TV on demand, it is hard to catch up with things like hospital appointments.

"I am okay, I can get out and about and it doesn't bother me too much, but I do feel for the people in the village who can't get out too much and might be feeling stuck without their internet.

"We have been told it won't be fixed until the 29th of December, which is obviously a long time away. I'd like to see it done sooner," she added.

An Openreach spokesman said work will be carried out this week which will in turn allow power engineers to fix the supply.

The spokesman said: "We are doing everything we can to keep broadband up and running for those living in Glemsford.

"There is a power issue affecting our green roadside cabinet, which means we’re having to temporarily use batteries to keep it running.

"Our team need to carry out a small amount of work before power engineers can fix the main problem and restore power.

"We’re thankful for the patience and understanding of those living nearby and we’ll get this fixed as quickly as possible."
