A road that has been closed for nearly a week due to flooding and repairs is set to reopen later today.

Barking Road in Needham Market has been closed since Friday, December 8 after repeatedly flooding in heavy rain since Storm Babet hit the county in October.

Suffolk Highways shared last week that they would be closing the road for emergency repairs until Friday, December 15.

However, last night residents reported being able to use the road, having received an email from Suffolk Highways that read: "The road is now partially open, so is suitable for cars but not heavy goods vehicles.

"They have been able to remove a lot of vegetation, test the kerb-offlets which are running and clear the floodwater.

"They have also built up the verge which is hoped will help to avoid similar problems in the future."

Highways closed the road to all traffic this morning (Thursday, December 14) while teams finish clearing the ditches and carry out a final inspection.

A post on X (formerly Twitter) says that the road will be reopening later today.
