Plans to separate a Grade II listed cottage in a Suffolk village from the oldest continuing Roman Catholic church in the county have been given the go-ahead.
A proposal by St Edmunds Roman Catholic Church which would see a one-hour fire protection, in the form of a stud wall, installed to separate Coldham Cottage from Our Lady Immaculate and St Joseph Catholic Church, in Bury Road, Lawshall, was approved by Babergh District Council on December 14.
Also approved in the plans were the installation of new kitchen units for the cottage and the creation of a disabled toilet for the use of church-goers.
Plans before the council said the church is the oldest continuing Roman Catholic church in Suffolk and, part of the Diocese of East Anglia within the Catholic parish of Bury St Edmunds, it was designated Grade II listed building status in 1998.
A statement to the council said the application was to enable the diocese to rent out the cottage, which in turn would provide income for the upkeep of the church.
