A special Christmas Day lunch for those who would otherwise be on their own attracted 100 guests to the town's United Reformed Church Hall.

It was organised by Michelle Frost and the Jam Community Pot, based in Stowmarket and set up in 2014. It organises the free three-course lunch on Christmas Day for those who would otherwise be alone on the day.

This year about 100 people turned up. They were joined by pop chorus, played bingo and had a raffle.

Stowmarket mayor Nick Gowrley and his wife Heather joined in the celebrations on Christmas Day.

A number of organisations support the event including Tesco Stowmarket, the Lions Club of Stowmarket and many individuals and businesses that donated raffle prizes.

Knights Lowe used their charity day to help set up the hall and wrap presents and many volunteers gave their time. Every guest went home with presents and cards.

The group is already planning its 10th anniversary events next year - remembering one guest who told organisers she had just enjoyed her best Christmas ever.
