Henry Batchelor has been selected to fight in West Suffolk for the Liberal Democrats at the next General Election.
He has lived in Haverhill since 2017, and is currently Lead Cabinet Member for Environmental Services at South Cambridgeshire District Council and Chair of Planning at Cambridgeshire County Council.
Mr Batchelor said sewage, health and the local economy at the top of his agenda: "It is clear that there are struggles that our area is facing.
"Water companies are spending thousands of hours dumping sewage into West Suffolk rivers, residents are struggling to see their GP or get a dentist appointment and 73% of burglaries in West Suffolk go unsolved.
"The Conservatives have clearly failed in being an effective representative for our area."
At the last General Election the Liberal Democrats came third behind Conservative candidate Matt Hancock and the Labour Party.
