What makes a great employer? Is it one that is financially stable with a clear set of goals, one that cares about topical issues such as inclusivity and sustainability, or one that always strives to show its appreciation for its staff?

According to Nina Metson, managing director of Waddington Brown HR Recruitment & Consultancy, which is sponsoring the Employer of the Year award at the EADT Business Awards 2024: “A great employer is one that is intentional in the way they recruit, develop and reward their people, so that the experience for employees is reflected in the experience for the customer.

“Creating a balanced, healthy and sustainable workplace like this takes careful consideration, and those achieving it should be championed,” she added.

The Employer of the Year award looks to do just this, and will showcase local organisations that have worked hard to create a culture that champions their people.

“We work with many companies on their people and culture plans, and we see the effort that goes into developing working environments that are people-centric, innovative and inclusive,” said Mrs Metson.

“Entering this award doesn’t just showcase what companies have done, but demonstrates their commitment to integrity and best practice that others can be inspired by.”

The winner of this award will not only act as inspiration for other employers; the prestige of winning could help to attract excellent employees in the future and ensure that existing staff are recognised for their contribution to such a great business.

“Recruiting great employees is hard,” said Mrs Metson. “Candidates expect much more than a regular salary and paid holidays, they want to see how employers provide opportunities for development, connect the work they do with the purpose of the company, and how they are valued as individuals.

“Winning this award is a clear and positive signal to both current and future employees of how they are prioritised.
