A woman has been given a suspended sentence and ordered to carry out unpaid work after she was caught with 40 bags of cocaine.

Thalia Cheamil, 23 and of Millfield Avenue in London, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday, January 24 after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs at a hearing in October last year.

Cheamil was stopped by officers from the Sentinel West ANPR team while driving a vehicle in Beyton on September 13.

She was arrested and taken to Bury police station where she was charged and remanded after officers found 40 bags of cocaine, an amount of cash and a mobile phone during a search of herself and the vehicle.

At court, she was sentenced to a two-year suspended prison sentence and was given a 35-day rehabilitation requirement and ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work.

Three Operation Sentinel teams were set up in 2019 to provide enhanced coverage of Suffolk's road network. The teams work to disrupt serious and organised criminal activity.
