A new McDonald's chain that is set to open in a former cycling shop has applied to the council for a 24 hour licence.

Martlesham Heath is set to get a new McDonald's fast food chain, which is due to open in the former Evans Cycles shop near Tesco Extra, Wickes and Topps Tiles.

In October 2023 it was revealed that the former cycle shop, which closed due to the landlord raising the rent, would become a restaurant.

In early January, plans revealed that the restaurant in question would be a McDonald's.

Further plans were submitted to East Suffolk Council to install the iconic yellow acrylic golden arch on the building.

Now, the chain has sent a premises licence application to East Suffolk Council to become a 24-hour restaurant.

The opening hours requested would see the restaurant open for 24 hours, while the chain has also applied for late-night refreshments, both inside and outside from 11pm to 5am.

Representations may be made to the licensing authority by February 27.

A McDonald’s spokesman said: "We continue to progress with our application for a new restaurant in Martlesham, which will bring significant investment and job opportunities to the local area."

The new restaurant is set to have an eat-in section, as well as a delivery counter for customers to collect orders.

About 40 jobs are set to be created.

The McDonald's would add to the fast food options in the area, alongside KFC, Subway, Greggs and Costa Coffee.

Another McDonald's has recently opened at the Copdock Interchange on the outskirts of Ipswich.
