Could you spend Your days living like a Viking?

Well, for 56-year-old Anne-Marie Vognsen, it’s a real possibility.

Tucked away in a sunny little corner of East Suffolk, Vognsen has spent the last 5 years learning and living as a part-time Viking,

“It began by finding a new friend through my day-to-day work who had children the same age who enjoyed exploring and creating…. I slowly began to realise that my Norse heritage past played a key role in east Anglia and so it begun.”

Part time living as a Viking isn’t lifeless and it is definitely not boring, the Vikings were exceptional party animals, so Vognsen and her friends spend their evenings drinking honey mead and enjoying life around the bonfire without the existential dread of 2024.

It is an “enthralling Adventure.” and it’s one which Vognsen has immersed herself in.

“I do it to give myself something to achieve – to learn … of my own choosing something that fills me up with excitement”.

“My favourite experience so far was sitting around a fire at a festival, with likeminded people singing, I had spent the day learning how to drop spin and tablet weave, it’s amazing really.” Vognsen added.

Thousands of years' worth of traditions, folklores and festivals, came from east Anglian pagan roots. Yes! Our favoured May Day and Midsummers Day all come from ancient Anglo and Viking traditions., our country is steeped in rich heritage, and because of the passion Vognsen and other living Vikings have, it will endure for thousands of more years.

“People underestimate how advanced they were, they never had helmets with horns on their history has really been stolen by the media.”

Vognsen knows her passion isn’t ordinary by any means, but it doesn’t stop her from doing it.

“It’s something for me to learn that I love and it’s a never-ending project.”
