A Suffolk farm and bakery has shared the exciting news that it is set to feature in a new BBC Two show this month.

Alexander and Emily Aitchison opened Acre Farm and Bakery in October 2022, and so were surprised that, in under a year, a production company was reaching out to them about featuring on an upcoming TV show.

"We hadn't been open very long when we received an email from the production team," reflected Mrs Aitchison.

"We spent a day filming with the production team and Rick Stein, who is so nice and knowledgeable and wanted to take the time to hear our story and understand our business.

"They filmed the full process of us baking some of our sourdough."

The micro-bakery specialises in making sourdough as part of its full-circle farm and bakery process, in which they not only bake the bread in their specialist wood-fired oven from Germany but grow the grains used too.

They then supply the local villages and towns with their baked goods, which include bread, cinnamon rolls, seasonal pies made with fruit from the farm, and tea cakes.

"It is really important for us to be able to tell our story," said Mrs Aitchison.

"We are trying to provide a local food system.

"We have just done our biggest bake that we have ever done today, and we are hoping that people in the villages that we supply watch the show and consider buying their bread from us."

Mr Aitchison was a chef for 15 years before the couple opened the Friday Street microbakery.

"Alexander grew up watching Rick Stein on TV," said Mrs Aitchison.

"He's the one that inspired him to become a chef, and it was really exciting for him to have met such an inspiration and role model.

"It's cool that he could meet someone he had looked up to for so long."

The Suffolk episode of Rick Stein's Food Stories will air on BBC Two on Wednesday, February 21 at 6.30pm.
