Suffolk popstar Ed Sheeran has donated money to his former school through a grant fund.

Philip Hurst, headteacher at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, said the Shape of You singer had provided financial support for the school through the Framlingham Foundation.

He said the money would enable the school's students to develop their talents, particularly in the arts.

Among projects being funded by the foundation's cash are a new recording studio, while money has also gone towards a photography studio.

The custom designed recording studio will enable students to record themselves using state-of-the-art equipment in a purpose-built, acoustically designed space.

Mr Hurst said: "We have good links with the Framlingham Foundation and appreciate their support for the work of the school allowing students to develop their talents."

The singer has maintained good links with the school, where he was a pupil and in November made a surprise guest appearance to see a production of musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

He also visited his alma mater in October to see a football match and perform for the students.
