Part of the A12 were shut and with long delays following a crash involving a HGV.
Emergency services were called to the collision on the southbound carriageway, near Colchester, on Wednesday afternoon.
A spokesman for National Highways said a HGV had "come to rest on a verge".

There were delays of 60 minutes in the area, with drivers heading into Essex from Suffolk affected by the incident.
It comes following a police incident which has shut the Orwell Bridge near Ipswich.
