A supermarket chain is set to move into a newly-built retail unit in Stowmarket.

Budgens is setting up shop at 9 Sorley Road, Suffolk Central Business Park, after the freehold on the 372sq m (4,000sq ft) was sold to Popular Limited acting on behalf of client RLMH Commercial Ltd.

The new business park to the west of Stowmarket is just three minutes from the main A14 and is a purpose-built commercial hub containing 20 office units and the retail premises.

The three-phase development includes on-site parking and landscaping. Other occupiers include Aaron Services and Farmers Guide, said agents Penn Commercial.

Hiren Patel, director of Popular Limited, said that in recent years, the convenience retail market has faced several challenges because of the higher energy costs and interest rate environment.

"Despite this, well-placed freehold assets with strong demand fundamentals and local communities need – of which this Budgens store is a good example – continue to have warm welcome from neighbouring business and residents," he said.

"It was our pleasure to work with the team at Penn Commercial on this deal and we extend our gratitude to Penn Commercial for their services.”

Robin Cousins, associate at Penn Commercial, said they were delighted to have closed the deal for the business park and for the nearby Chilton Leys residential development.

“The addition of the Budgens brand offers a strong community retail provision. The 4,000sq ft premises has been split to provide 3,000sq ft of convenience store and a further 1,000sq ft that is available to let.

“The vacant space would suit a number of occupiers or local businesses to further serve the community, and is available immediately on new lease terms.”
