The Growth Business of the Year award at the EADT Business Awards 2024 will go to a company that has managed to not only achieve financial growth, but also customer and employee growth. Craig Fiddaman, senior associate at award sponsor Ashtons Legal, tells us what judging experience he brings to the 2024 awards.

Why were you keen to get involved in the EADT Business Awards?

As a county, Suffolk is ‘home’ to such a breadth of emerging and well-established businesses, the opportunity to be a part of showcasing these through the EADT Business Awards is really exciting.

It is a privilege to offer our support to fellow businesses in the area.

Have you ever been judged for an award yourself?

My firm, Ashtons Legal, has entered and been judged for awards in the past, many of which it was successful in winning.

My advice when being judged is to be honest, detail-oriented and not afraid to really set out what you have achieved to date, and what is coming next.

Will you use that experience when judging this award?

Absolutely, through our own awards processes I know what judges are looking for, and I am well versed in analysing the commercial and technical details that will be at the heart of the submissions, as well as seeking out the fine details that entrants might have missed on their entry.

What have your previous experiences of judging been like?

On each occasion that I have been part of a judging panel, I have met some truly inspiring people and learned a lot about strategies, products, industries and opportunities that I’d never previously encountered.

What will you be looking for in the winner?

The business will need to have something special that differentiates it from its competitors.

It will also need to demonstrate growth across all its operations.

What advice would you give to a business that’s considering entering?

If you’re excited about the growth of your business to date, and the future growth as you foresee it, chances are, we are too! So please don’t hide your light under a bushel.
