More road closures have begun in Hadleigh as fibre optic cables are laid for full fibre broadband.

George Street is closed until March 10, Drapers Close is subject to a give and take system until March 4, and both Lady Lane and Aldham Road will have traffic management systems in place from March 11 to March 20.

More than 2,100 homes and businesses will be connected to faster broadband delivered by company Gigaclear, in a project which began last October and with the first customers due to be connected in April.

A Gigaclear spokesperson said: “Where possible, we always look to use existing infrastructure - such as ducts and poles - when extending our full fibre broadband network. Unfortunately, on this occasion it has not been possible.

“Work in Hadleigh has been ongoing since October and we expect to be able to connect our first customers in the town from April.

“We’d like to thank those residents impacted by our engineering work for their patience. We’re confident the long-term benefits that come with having access to fast and reliable full fibre broadband will outweigh the short-term inconvenience.”

It is part of a £27 million rural infrastructure boost for the area.

Bin collections will still take place during road closures.

Not all residents in Hadleigh will be getting full fibre broadband at this stage, however, though Gigaclear says plans are in place to extend the scheme in the future.
