A building that has stood empty for a year could become a house in multiple occupation (HMO) if plans before the district council are given the green light.

Applicant Mr R Barlow is seeking permission from Babergh District Council for the change of use of 8 Cornard Road in Sudbury.

The building, originally a purpose-built office and then converted to a medical clinic, has been empty since March 2023 when the previous tenant left.

In 2023, the owner applied for and was granted prior approval for the change of use of the building to a single dwelling.

But now, an application to the council would see it transformed into a HMO with up to eight bedrooms.

The proposal requires minor internal alterations to the existing accommodation layout and the external appearance would be unchanged.

A document to the council states that car parking is provided to the front, as well as cycle parking and a refuse bin storage area.

The applicant already owns and operates an HMO at the property next door, 10 Cornard Road.
