Signs have appeared teasing that a new restaurant is opening in a Suffolk town.

Witnesses say the signs for a new Mediterranean eatery appeared at 42 Cross Street in Sudbury about three days ago.

The signs simply read: "Mediterranean Cuisine at its best – coming here soon!"

The location of the new restaurant is the site of the former Boathouse which closed in September last year.

The owners of the former riverside restaurant said the decision to close was the result of behind the scenes matters.

A social media post said: "It is with a very heavy heart that we have to close The Boathouse with immediate effect.

"This is not down to the cost of living crisis, gas/electric bills, lack of staff, or lack of (a lovely) customer base. This is purely the result of a behind the scenes matter that cannot be resolved."

The name of the new restaurant and its opening date is not yet known.
