Drivers were left facing severe delays on the A12 after reports of a crash.
According to National Highways there was delays of around 45 minutes in the southbound carriageway near Colchester on Monday morning.
The AA Traffic Map was showing long delays in the London-bound carriageway with drivers travelling towards Ipswich faced no significant delays.
Essex Police has been approached for a comment.
