Mildenhall Trinity Avenue potholes 'waste of resources'

Trinity Avenue in Mildenhall has been the subject of several reports to Suffolk County Council's highways department over its large potholes and uneven surface.

Some of the holes have now been filled – but a large number have been left.

"This is scandalous waste of resources and highlights the incompetence of SCC and the way they manage road repairs," he said. 

"By filling in a couple of holes it suggest there is no intention of resurfacing the road anytime soon as was promised.

"If anyone thinks filling a couple of potholes solves the problem then they are living in cloud cuckoo land."

At the end of February, a sign displaying the words 'Pothole Avenue' appeared at the side of the road as residents attempted to bring attention to the situation. 

Last week, Lance Stanbury, who represents Mildenhall on the county council, said he has raised the road with the head of Suffolk Highways. 

"The funding for road surfacing has increased by around 50% and I’m pleased that sums have now been committed to Trinity Avenue for this coming financial year which starts at the beginning of April," he said.

Mr Neal, who previously branded Trinity Avenue the 'worst section of road in west Suffolk', said: "I’m not in the business of political boasts about Suffolk County Council being Conservative-controlled or how much extra funding they have received to tackle potholes.

"I am more about seeing the job done the way residents deserve it to be done.

"80 metres of a resurface should not be to much of an ask. It needs immediate work done not sometime never in the future. Mildenhall deserves better." 

A Suffolk County Council spokesperson said: "Trinity Avenue, Mildenhall is planned for road resurfacing this year. We will make contact with the community once the work has been scheduled.  

"In the meantime, to ensure the road is safe for use, the area will continue to be assessed and any defects that meet our criteria will be ordered for repair."
