There have been concerns among villagers regarding a future four-month road closure taking place later this year.
It was revealed on Monday that the B1057, between Haverhill in Suffolk and Steeple Bumpstead in Essex, is set to close from May 20 due to a new 3.5km water pipe being installed by Anglian Water.
According to one.network, the closure will last until September 13.
The news has brought concerns among residents and has become the "talk of the village."
Kerry Barnes, chairman of Steeple Bumpstead Parish Council, said: "There has been a lot of social media complaints and concerns because the alternative route is quite a lot further.
"It is a very long time.
"There is a lot of concerns in the village. One of the issues is that it is basically a main road. We get lots of lorries come that way."
A spokesman for Anglian Water said the work is part of a water supply resilience scheme between Haverhill and Steeple Bumpstead.
They added plans are still being finalised.
Mr Barnes added: "It is the talk of the village. My wife has to go into Haverhill every day but we still need the water mains."
