A Suffolk farm and campsite has been given permission to provide catering for guests as part of plans to diversify and provide extra facilities.

The Pigs in Blankets campsite, based at Broadside Park Farm, near Southwold will be providing tables and chairs for guests to dine as part of a food and drink area in a converted grain silo after East Suffolk Council approved the plans.

The site boasts all-year-round glamping pods and a camping area, which is set to open at Easter for the summer season, while the owners, Will and Jess Tomson, are hoping to have the catering facility up-and-running later in the year.

While the food area will be available for campers to use, Mr Tomson said he had also spoken to third party caterers in the Southwold area about coming to cook for the guests and had received interest, with one chef potentially offering burgers and pizzas.

He added: "Obviously, we are pleased with the approval result and the plans did not seem to drum up too much concern with locals and I think that everybody could see the benefits of it and it should be a great addition to the site.

"Hopefully, it will be nice for families and children to enjoy during the summer."

As well as the dining area, the business is also looking to open a petting farm, which will be available to both camping guests and the wider public.

Families with children would be able to meet some of the animals from the working farm side of the site in a safe environment.

Although the farm predominantly has pigs, there are also sheep, cows, donkeys and goats and there are plans to offer children the chance to bottle feed the lambs.

There are currently four glamping pods at the farm - heated wooden cabins with double beds and other facilities - while the owners have planning permission to increase this number to nine.

The campsite opened in 2022, with the glamping pods being added in July last year.
