The main pool at a Suffolk leisure centre will close to allow for urgent repair works to take place.

Mildenhall Hub's pool will shut on Sunday, March 24, in order for work on the pool liner to be completed.

It follows checks which identified that the liner had split and lifted in an area of the pool.

Contractor Wrightfield Pools said the fault is with the welded joint, rather than the liner itself.

In a joint statement, Abbeycroft and West Suffolk Council said: “We would like to apologise for any disruption caused by these works and thank people for their understanding while these repairs are carried out.

"We are working very closely with the contractor to make sure it is finished as soon as possible as we know how popular the pool facilities are and can’t wait to welcome everyone back for a swim.”

To carry out the repair works the pool will need to be drained and then refilled and heated, as well as the necessary checks carried out for water quality.

During the works, the centre's teaching pool will remain open to reduce the disruption caused.

The swim academy will continue with some alterations, which will be communicated directly to members.

West Suffolk Council advises users to check the revised schedule to avoid disappointment.

Mark Rose, of Wrightfield Pools, said: “While there has been no danger to any pool users this is a fault that needs to be rectified.

"To make sure it is done quickly and to the highest of standards, our liner contactor, Aquaflex, has recommended we drain the whole pool, to enable a thorough inspection of the complete liner and not just the shallow end, where the small, affected area has occurred.

"We hope to finish the works as soon as possible and apologise for the disruption and any inconvenience this has caused.”
