A former pub which has been closed since last year could be turned into an Indian restaurant under new plans.

Proposals to convert The Cherry Tree in Old Norwich Road in Yaxley, near Eye, have been submitted to Mid Suffolk District Council.

The pub closed its doors in 2023 and has been vacant ever since.

Documents put forward to the council show the new restaurant could be called Indian Soul, with a halo sign set to be erected above the entrance.

A planning statement said the building is starting to become run down having been left redundant.

No alterations would be made to the ground floor layout, while the first floor residency would be retained.

A number of jobs will be created if the proposals are given the go-ahead, although the planning statement does not state how many.

The current car park would remain unchanged.

It is the latest bid to convert pubs in Suffolk to be submitted.
