The future of a much-loved Suffolk pub threatened with closure is assured, a pub company has said.

David and Amanda Fisher are leaving the White Horse in Church Road, Felixstowe, with their final day on Tuesday when there will be a farewell event featuring a performance by the acoustic folk group The White Horse Brawlers.

However, owners Punch Pubs have said a new publican - who this newspaper understands is called Carol - will be taking the reins, with her first day set to be on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the pub company said: “We are delighted to confirm that the White Horse pub will remain open as our new publican prepares to take over.

"We would like to assure our guests that it remains our priority to ensure that this fantastic pub continues to serve the town of Felixstowe and the wider community for many years to come.”

The pub had been the subject of a campaign by Save the White Horse action group to stop the pub being turned into homes.

In 2021, Punch Pubs submitted plans to tear down the building and replace it with a shop with four flats above and two three-bed bungalows in the pub's car park.

In February, Emma Harris-Curtis, from the action group, said the pub had the ability to flourish because of the number of houses being built in the area.

She said: "It's a shame we are losing Amanda and David. They have done so much for the local area and set a high standard.

"We wish them all the best in their new venture. We hope the new appointed tenants will be just as good and maybe take it to the next level."
