A woman has avoided being banned from the roads despite being caught speeding as a disqualification could have resulted in her losing her job.

Melanie Isabel Redford, of Peldon Road in Abberton, near Colchester, appeared before Colchester Magistrates' Court on Thursday, March 7.

She was charged with speeding in excess of 30mph, according to a court listing.

The incident happened on the A141 Maldon Road in Danbury, when Redford's Vauxhall Corsa was recorded travelling at 43mph on November 6, 2022.

The speed limit for that road is 30mph.

Redford's case was dealt with through the single justice procedure, which deals more minor summary offences that are not heard before a crown court.

The 49-year-old was handed a fine £238, as well as being told to pay a victim surcharge of £95 and costs of £110.

However, she avoided a driving ban as a disqualification meant she could face losing her job and it would affect her mother's mental health.

Redford's driving licence was endorsed with three points, however.
