There will be a new development of 48 affordable homes in Bildeston after plans were unanimously passed by Babergh Council's planning committee.
The site, off Artiss Close and Rotheram Road, will have 35 shared ownership houses and 13 social rent houses with rents at roughly 50-60% of the market value.
Outline planning permission was granted for the site in 2017, but it was subsequently sold to Orbit Homes which amended the plans to increase open space within the site and increase the level of affordable housing from 35% to 100%.
Rachel Moorwood, planning agent acting for Orbit Homes: “The scheme is about providing much needed high quality, affordable housing in a core village.
“The impacts of the housing crisis and the rising cost of living in this country are no secret. Social rent relieves families of the stress and uncertainty of increased rent in the private sector.”
The estate will have a central area of public space with play area and play equipment, most likely managed by Orbit Homes through a small management fee to each of the houses on the site.
All the homes will have electric vehicle charging points, cycle storage, and air source heat pumps.
There will also be a footpath running through the site connecting to an existing public way network.
Councillor Margaret Maybury, of Lavenham ward, said: “The idea of having a whole estate for affordable housing is really good for the district.”
The committee’s unanimous approval of the reserved matters – appearance, scale, layout and landscaping – comes despite Bildeston Parish Council’s objections to the proposal.
