A west Suffolk man has been ordered to pay out more than £400 in fines and costs after being caught driving at 37mph in a 30mph zone in Lincoln.

Barry Frances, of Great Barton, near Bury St Edmunds, was fined for speeding at Lincoln Magistrates' Court on January 31.

The 74-year-old had been charged with speeding in excess of 30 miles per hour at Bunkers Hill in Lincoln on June 25 last year.

The incident came after Frances was caught driving at 37mph in a Vauxhall Astra.

The case was dealt with via the single justice procedure, which typically deals with more minor offences that are not heard before a crown court.

Frances was not present at Lincoln Magistrates' Court for the verdict.

He was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88 and costs of £110, totalling £418 to pay out, a court listing said.

His driving record was also endorsed with three points.
