Candidates have been announced for the Mid-Suffolk by-election for a Stowmarket ward.
Three people are standing for the Chilton seat, with the Green Party, Labour and the Conservatives fighting it out.
The by-election, which will take place on Thursday, May 2, along with the police and crime commissioner elections, was triggered by the resignation of David Napier due to employment commitments.
So who is standing?
Lorraine Baker - the Green Party
Ms Baker is a qualified accountant and has worked in business and finance. She is also a local authority officer who lives within the Chilton ward.
The Green candidate also volunteers with local environmental and community initiatives.
She said: “I have a shared interest in the local area, public services, and the challenges that our residents experience. I look forward to supporting all Chilton residents whilst working to enhance, protect and celebrate the Chilton ward.”
Will Howman – the Labour Party
Will Howman is Labour’s candidate for Chilton who lives in Stowmarket with his wife and two children.
Mr Howman said: “By pushing for key priorities such as investing in our town centres, addressing anti-social behaviour, and prioritising the construction of affordable and decent housing, I aim to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all residents. My personal experiences fuel my determination to advocate for policies that uplift every member of our community, ensuring that Stowmarket remains a place where everyone can thrive.”
Steve Runciman – the Conservative Party
A Major in the Army Reserve, Steve Runciman, will be the Conservative candidate for Chilton ward. Having served in the First Gulf War in Iraq and in Bosnia, he moved to Stowmarket in 2015.
Mr Runciman said: “I am really excited for the chance to put myself forward and serve local residents. There is so much happening in our town right now, particularly as the Conservative plan for a new Stowmarket Health, Education and Leisure Facility comes to fruition.
"With a new 3g football pitch, mini-athletics track, sports pavilion, and leisure centre expansion there are fantastic things to come on the horizon.”
