Plans to convert a former butchers shop into a dog grooming salon have been submitted.
The family-owned Ruse and Son shut its doors in Hall Street, Long Melford, in January 2020 after serving the community for 160 years.
Documents lodged with Babergh District Council show it could become a dog grooming salon under new plans.
Proposals show the shop's floor space would be transformed in order to make way for the new business.
No other alterations would be made to the Grade II listed building.
It is hoped three full-time positions can be created within 12 months of opening.
The planning document adds the proposed business "offers something of an alternative to the community service provision."
Speaking at the time of its closure, Lizzie Cross, a fifth generation member of the Ruse family, said: "The people of Long Melford have been so supportive and have shown us so much kindness over our time here.
"We are so incredibly grateful to them for that. They really have been amazing."
