Suffolk superstar Ed Sheeran has thrown a party for the Ipswich Town players after they secured promotion to the Premier League.

The Shape of You singer was spotted with a number of the first-team squad in a social media post as they sang songs such as "We've got super Kieran McKenna".

Sheeran brought along his guitar and celebrated the Blues gaining automatic promotion to the top flight, which was achieved after the 2-0 win at Portman Road against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

In an Instagram post from Wednesday evening, Sheeran said: "Took the Ipswich Town lads out for a promotion party tonight."

He also tagged Luke Woolfenden and Massimo Luongo as they wanted a mention in the caption.

The Framlingham-based singer-songwriter was unable to watch Saturday's victory at Portman Road because he was in Miami as he was performing at the Formula One race.

It is not the first time Sheeran has celebrated with the players this season. In October he joined the team in the changing room after an emphatic win over Hull City.

Thousands of people travelled to Ipswich on Saturday to watch the game, with Portman Road completely sold out.

On Monday the Tractor Boys travelled through Ipswich on an open top bus as they celebrated their promotion.

About 55,000 people watched on as the players made their way to Christchurch Park.
