Rail services between Ipswich and London were cancelled this afternoon as a result of a track defect.

At around 2.45pm, passengers were told the services would be cancelled due to a defect between Shenfield and Chelmsford.

Network Rail engineers were expected to be on site at 3.15pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman for Greater Anglia said: "Train services between Liverpool Street and Braintree, Colchester, Clacton, Ipswich and Norwich are subject to delays, short notice alterations and cancellations.

"Greater Anglia and Network Rail are sorry if your journey has been affected by this disruption."

Services resumed at a reduced speed just before 4.30pm and the line was back to normal by 4.45pm.
