Drone footage has captured the scale of a huge fire that ripped through the roof of a former industrial unit in Sudbury.

Firefighters from across Suffolk and Essex were sent to the blaze in Newton Road at about 5.10pm on Tuesday.

A total of 18 appliances attended the huge fire.

Drone footage captured by Joe Collins shows the scale of the blaze that spread across the roof. 

Smoke could be seen billowing from the fire from all over the town. 

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said the fire broke out in the derelict factory, which is approximately 100mx100m, and 20% of it was on fire.

A police cordon was put in place and people living nearby were asked to keep their windows and doors shut while the fire service attended the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
