The finalists for the East Anglia Clean & Green Awards 2025 have been announced, representing a range of businesses, organisations, charities and individuals across the region that are championing sustainability.
Here, we find out more about the finalists in the Educational Trailblazer category, sponsored by East Coast Energy Training Academy.
Apprenticeships Norfolk
Core funded by Norfolk County Council, Apprenticeships Norfolk (AN) aims to help people of any age to gain the skills they need to kickstart their career, while also championing apprenticeships as a means for businesses to build their pipeline of skilled future staff.
The AN website includes a dedicated Green Apprenticeships page and also has a Contribution to Green Apprenticeships Award, celebrating the work of an individual or business towards promoting green skills in Norfolk.
The judges said they “really love what the team at Apprenticeships Norfolk are trying to achieve” and that it is “leading the way in the net zero agenda” in its arena.
Constructionarium
Constructionarium, based in Bircham Newton in Norfolk, is a not for profit educational organisation for the construction and engineering industries.
Through hands-on projects and innovative training, learning promotes sustainable practices into core activities, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to address pressing environmental challenges.
Its AngliaZero project requires the learners to build a scaled offshore floating wind turbine and a house designed to promote end-to-end green energy and net-zero construction methods.
Praising the “immersive and holistic nature of the experience”, the judges said that Constructionarium offers “everything you need as a student to develop academic knowledge into useful skill sets”.
Sizewell C – EDF Renewables
Sizewell C is a national infrastructure project to deliver a 3.2GW European pressurised reactor (EPR) nuclear power station in Leiston, Suffolk.
Sizewell C’s Power up! Programme helps young people to explore how clean energy is produced within the nuclear industry, along with the environmental benefits and mitigations that such a large project has on the local area.
Pupils gain understanding about how net zero can be achieved through an effective energy mix, and are educated about what skills they need to enter the associated industries.
Calling the Power Up! Programme “a fantastic project” that is innovative and engaging, the judges said that Sizewell C is focused on “making the learning accessible, sustainable and inspiring”.
Suffolk New College
With campuses in Ipswich, Otley, Halesworth and Leiston, Suffolk New College is the current holder of the Association of Colleges Beacon Award for Education for Sustainable Development.
Since winning the award, it has used this accolade to influence educators regionally and nationally to embed sustainability in educational practice.
The Net Zero Skills Centre on the Ipswich Campus has also become a leading regional venue for conferences and workshops visits to discuss the green skills requirements to achieve net zero carbon.
The college’s focus on preparing and inspiring the next generation was noted by the judges, who said “the drive, passion and action that the team at Suffolk New College demonstrate is superb”.
