But the £3.4bn project could take eight years to complete - creating one of the largest green business hubs in the country.
Details of the plans emerged last week when we revealed that Mid Suffolk Council was in talks with the owners of the site originally earmarked for Snoasis an the neighbouring Port One logistics park.
The new proposal is for an extension to the existing Port One, with access through the existing site.
One of those behind the proposal is Ipswich-based developer Maxwell Hembry of the Curzon de Vere group.
He said the plans for the site included vertical farms growing millions of strawberries, a huge data centre, facilities to charge more 1,200 electric trucks and the head office of a major European company.
His group is currently in pre-application talks with Mid Suffolk council planners about their application which they hope to submit for approval in the autumn.
Mr Hembry said he hoped that work would probably start about four months after the final permission was granted - early next year - but that the whole project could take eight years to complete.
News of the application was welcomed by Central Suffolk and North Ipswich MP Patrick Spencer.
He said: “ I welcome these proposals and the opportunity they bring in terms of more local jobs for local people.
"This is a significant development and the decision to determine the application ultimately sits with the Green administration at Mid Suffolk District Council.”
And local county council Chris Chambers said there might need to be changes to the road network.
He said: "My concern is that the village of Little Blakenham is going to be in the shadows of these warehouses as they slowly encroach on their parish.
"Clearly the job opportunities for local people will be welcome, but I reserve further comment until I have spoken with Great Blakenham and Little Blakenham parish councils.
"From a Highways perspective, I do think it is time a roundabout is installed at the traffic lights as I do think that this junction is not fit for purpose with an increased number of HGV's accessing the location."
