The team behind an award-winning restaurant is delighted after adding yet another accolade to their collection.

The British Curry Championships took place for the first time this year, crowning the best Indian restaurants, takeaways and chefs across the country.

Chequers Indian Lounge, a restaurant in Great Blakenham near Ipswich, took home the national award for Curry Team of the Year.

It serves meals inspired by ancient spice routes and aims to give diners a look into India's cultures and cuisines.

Speaking after the award win, a spokesman for the restaurant and takeaway said: "This award is a true reflection of the passion, teamwork, and dedication poured into every dish by our incredible staff.

"From Suffolk to the national stage, thank you to all our customers, supporters, and our amazing team who made this possible. This win is for all of you."

It is not the first award Chequers Indian Lounge has won in recent months.

At the start of the year, it was named Outstanding Restaurant of the Year in the Nation's Curry Awards and has also been shortlisted in the English Curry Awards, which will announce winners in August.
