Biffa Waste Services Ltd have applied to Suffolk County Council to expand the Masons Recycling Facility in Great Blakenham, near Ipswich.
The plans would see the site expand up to an area of 16,819 square metres to accommodate the Suffolk Waste Partnership for the council.
In September 2021, Biffa acquired Viridor’s collections business and took over the site.
The proposal includes the extension to the existing main building, a new structure to the north of the site, two new storage bays, new welfare facilities, a ventilation and filter system and a Helios fire suppression system.

The proposed development could see the loss of areas of grassland on the periphery of the site, but the applicant argues this is not significant.
A spokesman added: "The proposal will be a significant contributor to the Simpler Recycling ambitions and Biffa has worked in close collaboration with Suffolk Waste Partnership to improve waste services to the local community."
