A railway operator is warning passengers of delays as a major train station is set to close for five days next month for essential works.

Network Rail has announced London Liverpool Street Station, and its concourse, will be closed on certain weekends in March.

The dates include March 15, March 21, March 22, March 28, and March 29.

Essential engineer work needs to be carried out, and it will affect all Greater Anglia services running into London.

These works are being done to keep the infrastructure running reliably and safely for all rail users.

Works will include roof drainage improvement at Liverpool Street, track and rail renewal works near Ilford Station, inspections of walls, tunnels, and brickwork.

There will also be track maintenance and general infrastructure maintenance.

Katie Frost, Network Rail's route director for Anglia, said: "I'm sorry that our work will impact weekend passenger journeys in March.

"There is never a good time to close the railway, but our planned work will deliver an extensive amount of renewals, repairs, maintenance and surveys on these busy, well used routes into London Liverpool Street.

"Much of the work needs to be done while trains are not running to keep our staff safe, and we are maximising the time we have to do as much as we can."

The Elizabeth line will also close between Stratford and Shenfield during weekends in March, as well as London Overground Weaver line services from Enfield Town/ Cheshunt and Chingford into London Liverpool Street station.

Martin Beable, managing director for Greater Anglia, said: "These projects will help improve and maintain very busy parts of the network, which will help to maintain our high standards of punctuality and reliability.

“Passengers should check before they travel and allow more time for their journey.

“We would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding while Network Rail carry out this work.”

Passengers are encouraged to check before travelling by using nationalrail.co.uk, or by visiting train operator websites, and to leave extra time to complete journeys.
