Proposals sent to Babergh District Council involve a change of use of 9 Hall Street, Long Melford, in order for it to be used for residential use.
The ground floor was previously used as commercial space, but has been vacant since 2023.
The upstairs is used residential accommodation.
As part of the scheme, the ground floor would be converted to allow the "building to function as a single, coherent residential unit."
A planning statement read that "the development secures a viable long-term use for the property."
"The conversion enables the building to remain actively occupied, maintained and appropriately managed, which is an important consideration in the conservation of heritage assets, particularly where continued commercial use is no longer practically viable," it reads.
The ground floor would be reconfigured to allow for it to be used as a home.
As part of the plans, the shopfront will also be removed.
According to an application form, the property would have four or more bedrooms.
