A letter from three young brothers turned their childhood fascination with bin lorries into a day they will never forget.
East Suffolk Services welcomed Arthur, nine, Henry, six, and Oscar, three, to its Ufford depot after they wrote in to share their love of waste and recycling vehicles, along with the Lego bin lorries they built at home.
Cassandra Clements, managing director of East Suffolk Services, said: "We received the most wonderful letter from Arthur, Henry and Oscar, explaining their interest in our bin lorries.
"They asked so many excellent questions that we felt the best thing to do was invite them to the depot so they could meet the team and see everything for themselves."
The visit included goodie bags including a personalised high-visibility vest, baseball cap and beanie hat, a guided tour of the depot, and the opportunity to climb inside a real bin lorry.
Ms Clements, who also has a passion for Lego, took the opportunity to show the boys her own Lego bin lorry and recycling centre, which she keeps on display in her office.
Arthur said: "We love bin lorries and always look out for them.
"We have even made a bin lorry out of Lego.
"Whenever I see East Suffolk Services trucks out and about, I like to take a picture and then copy the design on our Lego version."
Ben Brame, transport, fleet and workshop operations manager, gave the boys a hands-on introduction to the vehicle, explaining the various controls before letting them try out the driver’s seat.
The children’s mother, Laura Davies, said: "We had the most amazing time.
"A huge thank you to everyone involved.
"It really was so special.
"Arthur, Henry and Oscar loved it so much.
"The East Suffolk Services team were brilliant with the boys, and it meant so much to us all."
