Sizewell C workers blasted for parking in Leiston road

Susan King, who lives in Sizewell Road, Leiston, said it was unfair that locals could not park if they wanted to visit the nearby Co-Op or to go for a coffee with friends due to the volume of vehicles associated with the new Sizewell C nuclear power station.

She said a lot of workers were parking in disabled bays, despite not holding disabled badges, on kerbs and down side roads because they were unable to find space in Sizewell Road car park, which was already full of workers' cars.

She added: "I just think it is disgusting for the poor local residents who live there.

"I don't mind Sizewell C coming, but we have got another 15 years of this and if they don't nip it in the bud, this town's going to be horrendous."

She said many of the workers say they are just popping into a Londis store on the corner of Grimsey Road or that they are only stopping for a short time.

She added the workers used to park at the Sizewell Sports and Social Club in King Georges Avenue, Leiston, .

However those using the Sizewell Road car park are causing "total mess".

"They have taken over the whole car park and are using it like a Park and Ride. They have a minibus that picks them up and takes them to work," Susan said.

A Sizewell C spokesman said all complaints are taken extremely serious.

They added: “All employees and contractors that join our project complete a thorough induction and must adhere to our Worker Code of Conduct. This sets clear expectations, not only encouraging our workforce to act as positive ambassadors for the project but also helping us build and maintain strong relationships with local communities.
