A grand Victorian house in Lavenham is for sale at a guide price of £999,000.

Highfield House, a five-bedroom detached property on the edge of the historic village, has previously been a successful bed and breakfast.

Selling agent Chapman Stickels said: "It offers a fine example of Victorian architecture with beautifully proportioned rooms, elegant cornicing, sash windows and lofty ceilings."

Inside, the entrance hall has doors on either side to the two main reception rooms, which both have sash windows.

To the left is the drawing room, which features an electric fireplace with stone surround.

A small internal corridor off the hallway leads to an office, which could be used as a library. There is also a cloakroom and two WCs.

Highfield House is set back from the road behind wrought iron gates.

A sweeping gravel driveway, which leads to a double garage and workshop, has parking space for numerous cars.

The property has Mediterranean-style landscaped gardens with a small lawned area to the side.

In the grounds there's an outbuilding, currently used as a home office and hobby room, which once served as an annexe providing extra accommodation.

This could be reinstated, depending on planning permission, and used as guest space or for multi-generational living.

Highfield House is set on Bury Road in the popular village of Lavenham, which has independent shops, cafés and restaurants.
