A blue plaque honouring a notable 19th century landlord and horse dealer at a market town pub has been given permission to be installed.
The plaque will honour John Grout, a former landlord of The Bull Inn in Market Hill, Woodbridge.
The proposal aims to celebrate Mr Grout’s connection to the historic coaching inn on Market Hill and highlight his contributions to the town’s heritage.
The Bull Inn has longstanding ties to local trade, hospitality, and community life.
A design and access statement with the application said: "The proposed plaque reinforces this historic connection in a manner consistent with the building’s heritage and significance."
Designed in the traditional blue plaque style, the circular sign will measure 450mm across and feature white serif lettering on a cobalt blue background.
It will be positioned centrally between two ground-floor windows to ensure visual harmony.
The design aims to be understated and complementary to the building’s character.
Recent additions to the building, such as a coat of arms, also reference Mr Grout’s legacy.
His reputation as an internationally recognised horse dealer is linked to the recently installed coat of arms on The Bull Inn.
