A man found guilty of sending ‘grossly offensive’ messages to an MP is still on the run more than a month after a warrant was issued.
Anwar Mohammed, 59, of Anchor Street, in Lowestoft, was due at Ipswich Crown Court on July 3 to be sentenced for the email sent to Jess Asato, the MP for the town.
After he failed to attend the hearing, Judge David Wilson issued a warrant for his arrest without bail – more than a month later, he is still missing.
Suffolk Police said the force was ‘actively looking’ for Mohammed.
He was found guilty in June of one count of sending an indecent or grossly offensive electronic communication with intent to cause distress or anxiety.

The guilty verdict followed messages sent to the Lowestoft MP on July 3, 2024, the day before the General Election.
Ms Asato said the messages had been aimed at her and her children.
Mohammed was also charged with sending communications that threaten death or serious harm, which the court said would lie on file.
