A detached five-bedroom home set in grounds of about 1.4 acres is on the market in Newmarket at a guide price of £1.5 million.

The Lodge, in Bury Road, was formerly the home of champion horse trainer Geoff Wragg and his wife Patricia, and previously formed part of the Abington Place training establishment, which was sold following his retirement in 2008.

Geoff, who passed away in 2017, retained The Lodge as his home and the property is now up for sale following the death of Patricia last year.

The house extends to more than 4,000 sq ft and backs directly onto Warren Hill gallops, with paddocks, grazing land and six stables forming part of the grounds.

Entering through double doors, the reception hall provides access to the main living areas and the first floor.

Ground-floor accommodation includes a family room and a dual-aspect living room with an open fireplace and views across the grounds.

An annexe, accessed either from the principal bedroom or an external staircase, comprises a kitchenette, shower room, bedroom and dressing room, which could be used as a bedroom.

There's also an independently accessed workshop, store room and cloakroom.

Outside, double gates open onto a driveway with parking for several vehicles and access to a garage.

The grounds include mature trees, landscaped areas, grazing land and a stable block with six stables.

Prospective buyers should note that the house can only be sold to someone employed in racing.

Newmarket is known for its racing connections and equestrian facilities while also providing a range of everyday amenities.
